The Adventures Of A Unix Programmer

Hello World

Hello World ! I decided to move from Blogger to WordPress. I had One year at blogger with more than a hundred posts. All the while blogger remained static, unchanging and rudimentary. Whereas, Open Source Content Management Systems led by WordPress were leaping generations ahead.

If you are a geek who worked with Windows and then one day, discovered something called Unix, equate Windows to Blogger and WP to Unix. Blogger is for kids – easy to use and uncomplicated. But restricted in features and owned by Big Brother (Google). WP is for hackers – complicated, has whole bunch of options, highly configurable, limited only by your imagination and creativity.

WordPress.com is among the best and most reliable WP hosts. There is even this terrific PHP script to import posts and comments from blogger. I tested the import-blogger.php on my local WP setup. It is cool. Since wordpress.com supports it, I will import from blogger one of these days when I am not lazy.

Goodbye Blogspot. Hello WordPress.

I stopped blogging altogether. May be because of the tool that I use.

Thats actually very possible. For example, I stopped using commands that generate verbose output in dbx and mdb because my XTerm scroll buffer wasn't large enough to hold it. So now-a-days I've learnt to run it under emacs so that I can capture the output in the emacs buffers and search on it. A good tool can not only increase your productivity but also cause a paradigm shift in your mindset about how and what for you use the tool.

  3. Hey… Why dont you import your blog posts from blogger into this? I guess WordPress.com provides you this feature… it will make this site complete.

  4. Nice Blog, I’m using toko for content management (it’s a free one)… http://toko-contenteditor.pageil.net
