The Prestige

Christopher Nolan is my favorite director after Stanley Kubrick, Martin Scorsese and Alfred Hitchcock. He has an amazing talent for storytelling and direction.

Following, Memento, Insomnia, Batman Begins, The Prestige.

Every single one of his films is brilliant. At one level his style and themes are cliched. The story telling is Non-Linear or Multi-Prespective. And the plot revolves around a heavy emotion such as guilt or a startling revelation of an Anti-Hero. But the way he combines these themes and narrates a complex plot is sheer joy for people who have been treated to 20 years of mindless Hollywood and Bollywood masala.

The Prestige is his latest work and it revolves around two magicians and the one ultimate magic trick. The story is as usual non-linear in time and has too many twists and turns. You can lose track of the plot if you don’t pay attention. Easily the best story of the year and probably the next best directed movie after “The Departed”(which is also brilliant BTW). Would be interesting to watch The Prestige vs. The Departed at the Academy Awards next year.
