Deathly Hallows Kicks Ass July 22, 2007

I am in no mood to post a lengthy review, but for the record, the final Harry Potter book kicked ass. The first half of the book is average fare. But the second half more than makes up for it. That is despite the fact that me and Pottermaniacs around me had already figured out most of the important “secrets” of story before the book came out. From 400 pages onwards, it was a non-stop exciting roller coaster ride.

Its insane to hope that J.K.R would break her promise to finish off the series and come back to write prequels or sequels. Damn, but I thought Harry would have become an Auror. Maybe thats another story … ;-)

Deathly Hallows Leaked Online July 18, 2007

I was hoping to read the final book of the Harry Potter saga on Sunday. And I had ordered the book online. But that is certainly not the earliest time you can lay your hands on it: Harry Potter and the Deathly hallows was leaked on to bit-torrent networks yesterday. Someone took a page by page photo of the book sprawled on the floor and uploaded it. If you are smart, you will know where to find it. Although its not possible for any American or British publishing corporation to sue you due to lack of strong copyright laws in India, I would recommend you not to download it unless you have already paid for the Book.

I do some senseless stuff from time to time. But this is really wierd. Why would anyone want to run Internet Explorer on Windows let alone Solaris.

But then the Government of India doesn’t seem to think so. Some of their Income Tax Department pages are thoroughly broken on Firefox. Anyway I got wine running inside Solaris and ies4linux worked like a charm. Click on the link for a high-res picture of microsoft.com on IE on wine on Solaris on AMD64 ;-)

So Who Is Dying In Deathly Hallows ? July 16, 2007

J.K.R may be the best sales(wo)man since Guy Kawasaki. Before the release of every Harry Potter book, She has managed to throw just enough tidbits to pique everybody’s attention but never enough to guess whats going to happen. I’ve been subjected to an ultra-heavy dose of Pottermania this month and am all set to lay my hands on “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”. But the question all HP fans want answered is: Who are the ones dying in the book ? Rowling has gone on record saying two of the main characters will be killed. I have one obvious candidate, one unexpected candidate and one insane theory about who is going to die and why ;-)

After having vowed to watch only foreign language movies for the last three months (and occasionally failed it by digesting patent non-sense such as Shivaji, Shrek-3, Pirates of the Caribbean, Ocean’s Thirteen etc.. at the theaters), here is a vanity list of the creme de la creme.
